iPhone Duo Is Apple’s First Foldable, and It Costs ₹2,99,900 in India
Apple has finally made a foldable iPhone. It announced the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, years after Samsung, Google, and others started selling foldables. Apple is late, but it clearly wants people to think the wait was worth it.
The Screen
When you open the Duo, you get a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR folding OLED display. Apple says it’s the biggest screen ever on an iPhone, roughly 50% larger than the one on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Close it and you’re left with a 5.4-inch outer display that works like a normal phone.
So you can use it as a regular phone during the day and unfold it when you want to watch something, play a game, or get some work done. The inner screen has a nano-texture finish to cut down glare, and both displays go up to 120Hz with ProMotion.
Build and Design
The frame and hinge cover are titanium. Unfolded, the phone is only 5.2mm thick and weighs 254 grams. Folded, it’s 11.3mm thick. Apple built the hinge and internal structure around the fold, uses Ceramic Shield for protection, and gives it an IP68 rating against water and dust. You can pick between two colours: Star White and Night Sky.
Software
iOS 27 has been reworked for this phone. You can move between the outer and inner screens, run apps side by side, and prop the phone at different angles. Stand it on a table for a hands-free FaceTime call, or half-fold it to watch a video. Apple calls this “posable.”
Performance
Inside is the new A20 Pro chip, with a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple claims up to 20% faster CPU performance than the A19 Pro and up to 50% more memory bandwidth. There’s also a vapor-chamber cooling system, which should help during long gaming sessions or heavy apps.
Cameras
The rear setup has two 48MP cameras, one main and one ultra-wide. The fold brings a couple of new tricks. Duo Preview lets the person you’re photographing see themselves on the other screen, and Duo FaceTime is built around the phone standing on its own. Up front there’s a 12MP Center Stage camera plus an under-display camera. Video goes up to 4K at 120fps.
Battery
Foldables usually struggle with battery life, so Apple went with a dual-battery design. It claims up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and 44 hours on the outer one. Fast wired charging can take it to 50% in about 20 minutes, under Apple’s test conditions.
Price in India
This is a very expensive phone. In India:

There’s also a 2TB option, but its price depends on the configuration and market. Pre-orders open on October 16 at 5:30 PM IST, and sales start on October 23, 2026.
Is Apple Too Late?
Apple isn’t the first here, and it doesn’t pretend to be. But it didn’t just take an iPhone and add a hinge. It redesigned the hardware and the software together, and that’s the real pitch.
Whether that’s enough is something we’ll only know once people use it day to day. A big screen alone won’t justify the extra cost and the added complexity of a folding phone. The fold has to be useful.
