Is Cloud Gaming Efficient?
Continuing to improve the access and speed of Cloud gaming is an increasingly popular option. But following Amazon Luna’s announcement that they would cut off purchased games from their library by June 2026. There are many questions surrounding the viability of the overall future of cloud gaming. People who purchased a digital game cannot play after that specific time frame.
When you acquire a digital game, there is no ownership on your part
When you purchase a digital title, you cannot truly call it ‘yours.’ You can only use the game via a lease agreement (license) to use the content. You do not own a copy of that digital file or in any sense have it in a place you call yours.
Whether or not you can play a digital game relies solely on the provider of that digital game. Once that provider ceases to exist or removes the game from their service, you lose your right to use that game.
Cloud Gaming as an Option
Cloud gaming offers several benefits over traditional gaming methods:
- No download required
- Instant access on multiple devices
But Cloud gaming has some drawbacks. You are limited to the provider where you purchased the game and have to rely solely on that provider. If that provider removes the digital game from its service, you will no longer have the right to play that game.
Growth Transformation
Many platforms have become subscription-based rather than selling games individually. Rather than own games, gamers access them.
Conclusion
Cloud-based services such as game streaming products provide the convenience of instant access to your favourite titles without the need to download files directly onto your system; however, this means there are drawbacks associated with not having full ownership over games purchased using them. Thus, consumers should research their platforming choices very carefully if they want the ability to retain control of their purchases beyond the lifespan of an individual channel or communication medium.
