Titanfall Fans React to Shooter Game Cancelation
Titanfall 3
A huge franchise with a big cult following, Titanfall 3 was the touted successor of it.
In the Titanfall verse, you fight in a futuristic world where most of the time you are controlling mechs. Which had multitudes of power with big guns, cannons, high jumping, and other abilities.
This time a heartbreaking news came out with the final nail in the coffin as many sources, both official and unofficial both have announced that Titanfall 3 was finally cancelled.
Titanfall franchise
Titanfall 1 & 2
It all started when Titanfall in 2014 started with players controlling mechs fighting in an arena. The sequel came with a nice single-player campaign with an interesting storyline. This sequel also had multiplayer after you finished the actual gameplay.
When the reviews poured in for Titanfall 2. Its sequel, Titanfall 3, was proposed, and with everything decided, the development was initiated.
But before the year could end, it was discarded with all of the dev teams fired.
Apex legend
After that, the same company launched Apex Legends, which is still a great commercial success. Needless to say, Apex shared the same universe as Titanfall, but without its iconic mechas. With the failure of Apex Legends mobile, things went dire again.
Titanfall 3 cancellation
Later in 2023, devs announced the extraction-based shooter game for the Titanfall franchise, which was supposed to be the next successor in the series, Titanfall 3. It was codenamed Project R7, fans were elated for the revival of their ever-favourite franchise. But now Electronic Arts has fired more than 100s developers within early development of the game.
Will there be a Titanfall 3?
While the Project R7 is cancelled, it does not mean that Titanfall 3 will never come out. It may come out in a different form or play style in the future. But right now, there is no Titanfall.
Other Cancelled games in the 3rd series
This is not the first time that Respawn have cancelled games from this series.
Before Project R7, there were many games cancelled by the developers.
Titanfall Frontline
This was a card game with gameplay similar to other card-based games. You threw your cards, which had mechas and pilots with them. These dealt damage to the opponent’s card. The whole project was scrapped in 2017.
Titanfall Online
This ACAP-focused game was supposed to be the successor to the Titanfall franchise. It never went ahead of its beta release and was ultimately shut down.
Titanfall Legends
This ambitious crossover was done before it even went out for beta. Respawn had the excellent idea of combining both of their games into one.
Needless to say, it never took off; the name we got was the codename that leaked later
As we can see, there is a nice track record of games cancelled by the Respawn Studio. And this time, they have honoured their streak by cancelling yet another Titanfall sequel.
Why Titanfall 3 got cancelled
The main reason why Titanfall 3 was cancelled has not been reported yet. Aside from the fact that more than 100s developers at Respawn, the original studio, were let go. Meanwhile, more than 400s of total developers were fired by the EA.
While there are speculations, it is possible that the corporation did not want another Extraction shooter when already market is soo competitive with PUBG, Cod Duty Warzone and their own Apex Legends.
Future of the Titanfall franchise
While the Apex legend is still going strong, Titanfall isn’t getting anything sooner. While the franchise has a good, loyal fanbase, the cancellation of Titanfall 3 will be a halt to the series for now.
We hope that things go well for the Titanfall franchise, and Electronic Arts gives us another instalment in the form of Titanfall 3. Keep playing, see you in the typhoon soon.
