What is Fragpunk?

Fragpunk is a new shooting game in town. It is a multiplayer game, so you play against five players in a 5 vs 5 game. 

It has a unique shard system in its gameplay, which changes combat rules frequently. Also, it has many characters to choose from, about which we will talk later. 

The game resembles popular titles from the classic competitive multiplayer games like CS: GO, CS2, and Valorant. It has a futuristic neon scene, so it feels more cyberpunk.

Netease is a company that produces great games from time to time. A Chinese company that has launched hits like Marvel: Rivals and Diablo Immortal, which became an overnight success. 

This time, they have teamed up with Bad Guitar Inc. to build the game. The first Alpha testing for a chosen pool of players was held in June. The Beta testing was held in October. Netease with Bad Guitar has done splendidly, but a smoother game steals the show.  

Gameplay of Fragpunk 

Core Gameplay

Your main objective in the Fragpunk is to shoot enemy players down. With different modes, which are a total of seven, and a lot more to come. 

Every player is given a choice to start with thirteen Lancers, which are heroes with abilities. Which are defensive, offensive, healing, scouting, and some special abilities, like Smoke screen. However, others have disruptions like traps and teleportation. You can play any lancer that you like. 

Shards are the core of the game, as they make it different from other shooters. There are a total of 150 shards, but they are all different in gameplay.

 Every round, you get shards which you can use to buy Shardcards. Which in turn will make you powerful round by round.

Modes: 

A total of seven modes in the gameplay. With regular modes like Shardclash, which is the standard mode. Here, the attacker’s team has to plant a bomb, and the other team has to defend it. 

There is an advanced version in the game, but it has a slightly different gameplay. However, to play competitive gameplay, you have to play in ranked mode. 

There are also arcade modes that are different from normal mode. It has an interesting feature of 1v1 called duel master. Here you can showcase your dueling skills. Scrimmage is a kind of battle royale where all players are on their own. 

Maps:

Fifteen Maps await you in the game. They have vibrant themes, but are balanced and symmetrical maps. The maps are based on different aesthetics, and are often rotated when you play modes. 

Shards:

As the match starts, you enter the preparation stage. You and your team choose from the three groups of Shard cards. These sets contain Shardcards that are randomly selected. But they should be from all the unlocked cards amongst teammates. To buy these cards, you contribute shard points. They will provide you with immense buffs, like Scythe, which gives you a nice melee weapon. Card effects remain for the entire round. More than 160 cards are released, and they can be acquired and upgraded while leveling up. 

Weapons:

As a shooter game, it has a large collection of awesome weapons. You can select any weapon according to your playstyle. As usual, we have three classes of weapons. The primary, think of big guns, like assault rifles, SMGs, shotguns, and snipers. Next up are the secondary, which are side arms, like pistols, revolvers. And last are Melee weapons that are knives and Daggers.

Release and Ratings 

Fragpunk release date was the Sixth of March 2025. Developers will add cross-platform support soon. Which means we will see the crossplay before June 2025.

Ratings are overall mixed to positive for the game, with 7 out of 10 on Steam and 7 out of 10 given by Metacritic.

Minimum requirements are given:

The OS should be at least Windows 10. The CPU should be at least an I7 8th gen, AMD Zen 2, or a better equivalent. You will need 16 GB of RAM and 35 GB of storage space. GPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060. Your game will run at medium to low settings

2. Recommended

As posted by Netease, the recommended specification for smoother gameplay.

OS is the same Windows 10 or better, with CPU i7 10th gen or better, or AMD Zen 3 or anything better than these two. The GPU should be at least Nvidia GeForce GTX 2060. Storage Needed is 16 GB, and Space of 35 GB. You can expect a smooth gaming experience with good graphics.

The variety of Lancers with the unique shard mechanic breaks the monotony, which often plagues the competitive shooting games.
