Andor season 2 ends with the new hope for the Galaxy.

The most awaited Star Wars show, Andor season 2, has completed its whole storyline. In the Star Wars andor planet is under the occupation of Emperor Sheev Palpatine, better known as Darth Sidious. The origin of Cassian was seen in the first season, and this season went on with his many exploits in the galaxy and the completion of his arc.

Andor season 2 wraps up all the offcuts of the story up to Rogue One of the franchise. The story also gives a much closer look at the Rebel Alliance working along with their struggle. It has a rich story with quite complex characters, which are normally unavailable in the Star Wars franchise.

Story Before Andor Season 2

Andor is the story of Cassian’s exploits and sits between the clone wars and the New Hope. The andor starts with the cassian being a petty thief and looking for his sister, who is lost for a long while.

After the death of his adoptive parental figure, Maarva, and after he saw the atrocities of the empire. He finally committed himself properly to the cause of the mysterious rebel leader.

The latter episodes of Andor’s first season show the peak of imperial cruelty and how resistance is weak and almost non-existent.

Several incidents that are important to the Star wars story happened in the first season, like the brutal questioning of Caleen by the Empire. We also saw how Mon Mothma provided funding to rebels despite her precarious position. Midway, the empire officials tried to catch Cassian at any cost and succeeded finally.

Empire later became successful in capturing Cassian and imprisoning him in a gulag-like captivity where there was no law or any kind of liberation. Cassian finally hatches and succeeds in launching a mass prison breakout.

Meet the cast

There are several characters in Andor, and we mention those who are critical to the storyline of the Star Wars saga.

  • Cassian Andor: The primary protagonist and one of the key figures in the rebellion against the Sith Empire. He starts from a criminal background, with his antics like jailbreaking a secured facility and stealing a Death Star’s plans propel him to the biggest spotlight among the Star Wars rebels.
  • Luthen Rael: Luthen appears to be the brain of the rebellion, who is often confronted with moral dilemmas and is regularly forced to sacrifice his friends to keep the intelligentsia of rebels safe.
  • Mon Mothma: Mon Mothma serves as one of the major spenders on the rebellion, even though she is herself in an unsafe position.
  • Bix Caleen: A resident of Ferrix who was tortured mercilessly by imperial forces, her story is an epitome of the regime’s brutality in the empire.
  • K-2SO: The droid is finally introduced in the final season, which is crucial to the storyline ahead.

Each of the characters started with season one and has grown much complex with time. These characters were not like other characters of the universe, where you get absolute evils or goods and nothing in between. Here, a more mature storyline is observed through the morally grey characters.

Andor season 2 Story afterwards

Andor season 2 starts when Cassian returns after the prison break. The whole season covers four years, with the Luthen giving missions to Cassian. While Mon Mothma further fuels the rebellion at the cost of her family. Dedra Meero and Karn conspired in a false flag attack to improve their position within the IBS.

Luthen decides to sacrifice himself instead of getting exposed in front of the Empire.  This completes his character arc of a stealthy mastermind behind the rebels’ plot.

Merging with the main timeline

The story is merged with the Star Wars timeline after everything is said and done. The events will now lead to Rogue One and further at the start of A New Hope.

  • K-2SO: The droid finally programmed by Cassian to become the beloved and loyal droid we all know.
  • Death Star plans: Buildup to the major plot of Rogue One here, Luthen finds that the Empire is planning a big superweapon.
  • Rebels United: Many rebels are united by Mothma and Organa to strengthen their cause.

All of the events lead to the beginning of Rogue One. And then, towards the start of A New Hope. Afterward, resumes with the normal timeline of the galaxy.

Political imagery in Andor season 2

Star Wars has always been political regarding the struggle between an authoritative regime fighting against underdog rebels.

The Andor Season 2 is heavily infused with politics, where the fascism of the empire is up against the libertarian values of the rebels. The witch-hunting of Jedi and the subsequent rebellion in the aftermath of the clone wars depicted the fight against the authoritarian regime.

  • Moral issues: The use of war instruments of the Empire against them, even though they are unethical, is a major dilemma for Luthen.
  • Imperial bureaucracy: The spying done by the security bureau has an eerie resemblance to real-life surveillance done by states in our world.
  • All Class struggle: The working class woes that were amplified during the iron fist regime had their uprising. While Mothma was trying to take her fight to the elites, showing that rebellion spreads everywhere.
  • Law enforcement brutality: Law enforcement treats the people of Ferrix like dirt, which resembles the real-world police brutality.

All of the themes echo what is happening around us. The show has steered sci-fi away from the fairy story and more towards real-life stories that we can relate to. All characters are in the gray area where villains claim to be righteous and heroes often have to make hard choices.

Our review of Andor season 2

Andor Season 2 marks itself as a more mature form of cinema in the Star Wars universe. While most movies were in the tones of good and evil, black and white, Andor comes with a much more complex story thanks to Tony Gilroy.

The performance of all actors, Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgård, and Denzel is highly commendable. The casting was perfect, and their performance tells us all about it. Some issues with the TV shows were that there was a lot less sci-fi and more politics. And this may come as a plus or a negative, as Andor is more of a political story rather than pure sci-fi.

Not many breathtaking views are available as grit has replaced the splendour of cities and the battlefield that Star Wars is usually known for. The series itself is highly rewatchable as it covers modern-day political issues very well. Even though the premise is another galaxy.
